There are signs that the brothers showed interest in the conflict in Syria, which has drawn al Qaida fighters and other militants from across the Muslim world and Europe, according to a U.S. counterterror official. Like others interviewed for this story, the official requested anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the ongoing case.

Why did they do it?

Some theories on motive....

Highlights
  • Osama bin Laden, America’s bogyman, was recruited by the CIA in 1979 at the very outset of the US sponsored jihad. He was 22 years old and was trained in a CIA sponsored guerilla training camp.
  • The architects of the covert operation in support of “Islamic fundamentalism” launched during the Reagan presidency played a key role in launching the “Global War on Terrorism” in the wake of 9/11.

President Ronald Reagan met the leaders of the Islamic Jihad at the White House in 1985
  • Under the Reagan adminstration, US foreign policy evolved towards the unconditional support and endorsement of the Islamic “freedom fighters”. In today’s World, the “freedom fighters” are labelled “Islamic terrorists”.
  • In the Pashtun language, the word “Taliban” means “Students”, or graduates of the madrasahs (places of learning or coranic schools) set up by the Wahhabi missions from Saudi Arabia, with the support of the CIA.
  • Education in Afghanistan in the years preceding the Soviet-Afghan war was largely secular. The US covert education destroyed secular education. The number of CIA sponsored religious schools (madrasahs) increased from 2,500 in 1980 to over 39,000.
The Soviet-Afghan war was part of a CIA covert agenda initiated during the Carter administration, which consisted in actively supporting and financing the Islamic brigades, later known as Al Qaeda.
The Pakistani military regime played from the outset in the late 1970s, a key role in the US sponsored military and intelligence operations in Afghanistan. In the post-Cold war era, this central role of Pakistan in US intelligence operations was extended to the broader Central Asia- Middle East region

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the older of the two brothers suspected in the Boston Marathon bombings, called his mother Thursday morning, hours before being killed in a shootout with police, and told her he had received a call from the FBI, she said.
"He would call me every day from America in the last days," Zubeidat Tsarnaev said on Sunday in a telephone interview from her home in the Russian republic of Dagestan, "and during our last conversation on the morning (before the shootout), he was especially touching and tender and alarmed at the same time," she said. "He said he got a private phone call from [the FBI] and said that they told him he was under suspicion and should come see them

( like I said, the FBI had ID these guys before they released the photos and asked for help from the public.)

Why so many immediately see the Boston Marathon Bombing as a Black Flag Opp.

The diversity madness that has gripped education ever since the left seized control is aimed at fragmenting Americans, eroding the commonality that should be emphasized to bind us together as a people. And that goes double for immigrants, who ought to be encouraged to acculturate themselves, to become part of what they came here for.   But instead of that emphasis, which was the norm 50 years ago, education is now focused on indoctrinating youngsters into the cult of ethnic identity and separate consciousness.
In that context, I suppose that Steve Matteo did a commendable thing by introducing Dzhokhar to an academic resource in local higher education. Steve Urbon continues:
